Before the 2015 territorial reform, Cotamutu had an area of 19.09 km². Now there are 14.54 km². The Suco is located in the eastern center of the Luro administrative office. In the north it borders on the Suco Wairoque , in the west on Lacawa , in the south-west it meets the Suco Afabubu , in the south lies Baricafa , in the east the Suco Luro and in the northeast, across the Raumoco river , the Lautém administrative office with its Suco Maina II . Here the Adafuro , which forms the border river to the Wairoque, flows into the Raumoco.

The villages of Boruvali ( Borowali , Boruwali ) and Borogae ( Borugae , Borugai ) on the south bank of the Adafuro belong to the settlement center of Lower Luro . A little further south are the villages of Oneraba ( Onerafa , Onerfa ) and Lacawa ( Lakawa ). The closed settlement of Upper Luro extends across the border from Luro to Cotamutu. On the Cotamutu side, these include the villages of Baricafa ( Barikafa ), Cotamutu and Ossufaso . A little outside are the villages of Ouroma ( Ourama , Oroma ) and Kotamutu . The largest settlement, which is only in the Suco Cotamutu, is Etanisi ( Enanice ) in the south. To the northwest of it is Buanomar ( Buanomor ). Further to the northwest is Bua Nomor , which is cut by the border with Lacawa. There is a primary school here.

The borders of sucos were re-cut between 1999 and 2004. It was then that the west came to Lacawa from Bua Nomor. The border now runs over the top of a mountain 1098  m high. In return, Cotamutu moved in the north at the expense of Lacawa to the Adafuro River. Before this reorganization, Cotamutu had 1623 inhabitants.

The three Aldeias Buanomar , Etanisi and Ouroma are located in Cotamutu .
