Crossing Lines is a German - French - US Action - crime series in which the investigative work of a special police unit of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague will be shown. The team pursues serial criminals and serious criminals across borders across Europe .

Crossing Lines celebrated its premiere on June 9, 2013 at the Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo in Monte Carlo . The series premiered on television on June 14, 2013 in Italy. In Germany, the station Sat.1 broadcast the series from August 22, 2013.

In the first season it was a co-production of the French broadcaster TF1 , the US broadcaster NBC and the German broadcaster Sat.1 .

action

In Crossing Lines it comes to the creation and work of an elite unit , by the International Criminal Court was established (ICC) to life.

Season 1 First of all, your mission is to solve a mysterious cross-border series of murders. Each national police agency in whose jurisdiction one of these murders took place assigns an officer. The team, consisting of initially six and later five young, motivated police officers Eva Vittoria (Italy), Tommy McConnel (Northern Ireland), Sienna Pride (England), Sebastian Berger (Germany) and Anne-Marie San (France) is led by Louis Daniel. Daniel is a legend of the French National Police and also wants to solve the murder of his son, who was killed by members of a criminal organization. The unit also includes Carl Hickman, a retired and wounded New York cop who is given an unexpected second chance to restore his reputation by working in this elite unit. During the investigation, the perpetrator is tracked down, but during the pursuit in a Berlin park, this Sienna Pride stabs to death. Ultimately, the killer can be caught and shot by Daniel.

After the deceased colleague was buried in London, the team received a permanent order from the ICC. Since the formation of the EU opened up the borders to travelers and improved and facilitated trade and intercultural exchange, criminals also have more chances and opportunities to abuse the system, which is a threat to European security. Criminals can more easily escape justice and go into hiding in other safer countries, or move their illegal business from one country to another with ease until they are finally tracked down. The ICC team is therefore supposed to investigate cross-border serial crimes and bring the perpetrators to justice. The team's headquarters are located in an empty storage room below the International Criminal Court in The Hague . The unequal team faces the bureaucratic , legal, and cultural barriers as it cracks down on the crimes of the world's most dangerous and brutal criminals.

Season 2 In the second season, the troops are reinforced by Inspector Arabella Seeger (Netherlands).

Eva Vittoria separates herself from the rest of the unit in the last third of the season and investigates a private matter. When she is asked to an ominous meeting, she gets in touch with her colleagues. This call worries Dorn, who immediately goes to look for the investigator. When he arrives at her hotel room, he makes a terrible discovery. What or when he finds it remains unclear, as well as the whereabouts of Eva Vittoria.

The season ends with the death of Major Louis Daniel. When he intercepts a bullet for profiler Carl Hickmann, he dies. After this event, the team is initially disbanded.

Season 3 Some time after the team broke up, a new case requires the skills of an international team of investigators. Dorn gathers a new troop to rescue his kidnapped friend and confidante Sophie from the violence of kidnappers.

The new team will be led by Carine Strand, an ambitious US investigator. The Italian Marco Constante, kidnapping expert; the Briton Luke Wilkinson, an investigator with great mental and physical fitness, and Ellie Delfont-Bogard, who has just completed her criminal psychology degree, are also among the newcomers. The German technology expert Sebastian Berger and the Dutch Arabella Seeger will remain and complete the new ICC unit.

production

The two-hour pilot episode was conceived by former Criminal Minds producer Ed Bernero together with Rola Bauer from Tandem Communications . Filming began on September 26, 2012 in Prague. Most of the first season was shot there. Then it went on to France, where it was mainly shot in Paris. The shooting ended at the end of February 2013.

The first season had a budget of $ 30 million ($ 3 million per episode), the equivalent of around 23 million euros. But for cost reasons, the Czech Republic was selected as the main location and so scenes were shot in Prague that are to be set in Berlin, The Hague, Vienna or other locations in these countries.

Ten episodes were ordered and produced for the first season. There are seven independent stories in the first season. Three of them are each told in a double sequence. In Italy, the first season was released as a five-part series with episodes of around 90 minutes each. Sat.1 also practices the same tactics for the German-language broadcast.

A second season with twelve episodes was produced from September 2013 to March 2014 in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and France. This season was broadcast in Germany from September 4 to November 13, 2014 on Sat.1.

The third season with twelve new episodes was produced from February to June 2015 in the Czech Republic and Croatia. This season Goran Višnjić , Elizabeth Mitchell , Stuart Martin and Naomi Battrick join the main cast after William Fichtner , Marc Lavoine , Gabriella Pession , and Richard Flood left the series.

reception

Kevin Jon Heller criticized the fact that the series Crossing Lines misunderstood the function and task of the International Criminal Court. In reality, his only task is to judge crimes against humanity , war crimes and genocide . The International Criminal Court does not have an organization comparable to the Crossing Lines Task Force.
