The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) ( Greek Κυπριακή Ομοσπονδία Ποδοσφαίρου , Turkish Kıbrıs Futbol Federasyonu ) is the football association of the Republic of Cyprus . He is based in Nicosia .

The CFA is responsible for the organization of football in the Republic of Cyprus and is therefore responsible, among other things, for the Cyprus national football team . The association is also the host of the First Division professional league , the Cypriot Cup and the Supercup .

history

At the beginning of the 20th century, football slowly established itself in Cyprus after it was brought into the country by the British . In order to better organize the growing number of clubs, the Cyprus Football Association was founded in September 1934 . In 1948 they joined FIFA , in 1962 they joined UEFA . In 2007 the new headquarters in Nicosia was opened. UEFA President Michel Platini and then Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos were present at the ceremony . There is a sponsorship agreement with the Marfin Popular Bank .

On October 13, 2014, a bomb exploded in front of the Cyprus Referees Association headquarters . In addition, a Molotov cocktail detonated in front of a line judge's apartment in Limassol . In March 2014, the car of the UEFA referee and head of the Cyprus Referee Association , Leontios Trattos, exploded .
