The Aube [ oːb ] department is the French department with serial number 10. It is located in the north-east of the country in the Grand Est region and was named after the river Aube .
geography
The department in western Champagne borders on the Marne department in the north, the Haute-Marne department in the east, the Côte-d'Or department in the southeast, the Yonne department in the southwest and the Seine-et- department in the northwest . Marne .
While the Seine flows through the department from the south-east to the north-west, the eponymous Aube runs in the north-east and north of the department. To the east between Seine and Aube, the Forêt d'Orient Regional Nature Park stretches with the three man-made lakes Lac d'Orient , Lac du Temple and Lac Amance , which regulate the water levels of both rivers.
history
The department was formed on March 4, 1790 from parts of the province of Champagne .
From 1960 to 2015 it was part of the Champagne-Ardenne region , which in 2016 became part of the Grand Est region.
