The Département Côte-d'Or [ kotˈdɔːʀ ] is the French department with the serial number 21. It is located in the east of the country in the region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and is named after a steep geological edge characterized by viticulture , which extends from Dijon to the south Beaune runs.

geography

The department borders on the Aube department to the north, the Haute-Marne department to the northeast, the Haute-Saône department to the east, the Jura department to the southeast, the Saône-et-Loire department to the south and the Départements Nièvre and Yonne .

The Saône and the Seine flow through the department . The Ouche flows into the Saône. It forms the north-eastern part of the Burgundy region.

history

The department was formed on March 4, 1790 from parts of the province of Burgundy .

From 1960 to 2015 it belonged to the Burgundy region , which in 2016 became part of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region.
