The Haute-Marne [ otˈmaʀn ] department is the French department with serial number 52. It is located in the north-east of the country in the Grand Est region - before 2016 Champagne-Ardenne - and is named after the river Marne .

geography

The department is bordered to the north by the departments of Marne and Meuse , to the east by the department of Vosges , in the southeast of the department of Haute-Saône , in the southwest of the department of Côte-d'Or and the west by the department of Aube .

history

The department was formed on March 4, 1790 mainly from parts of the Champagne province , some areas in the southwest belonged to Burgundy before .

From 1960 to 2015, the department was part of the Champagne-Ardenne region , which in 2016 became part of the Grand Est region.
