Dolcenera (* 16th May 1977 in Galatina , province of Lecce , as Emanuela Trane ) is an Italian pop singer .

Career

Trane began writing songs at the age of 14 after learning to sing, piano and clarinet. At the age of 16 she founded the band Codice Zero in Florence . Eventually the producer Lucio Fabbri discovered the musician and she adopted the stage name Dolcenera, which is made up of the Italian words for "sweet" and "black" and is intended as a homage to the 1996 song of the same name by Fabrizio De André . Dolcenera began her career in 2002 in the program Destinazione Sanremo , in which she qualified for the newcomer category of the Sanremo Festival 2003 . She won her category with the song Siamo tutti là fuori , then reached the top 10 of the charts and released her debut album Sorriso nucleare , with which she toured Italy in 2004.

In 2005 she won the reality TV telecast Music Farm . Her second album Un mondo perfetto then reached number four in the Italian charts . She received the De André Award and was awarded the Silver Lion of Venice for musical discovery of the year. In the same year she composed the official anthem for the youth soccer national championship and was torchbearer for the Olympic flame.

With Com'è straordinaria la vita she took part again in 2006 at the Sanremo Festival. She reached second place in the women's category and made it to the finals. Her third album Il popolo dei sogni , on which a cover version of the Gianna Nannini classic America can be heard, subsequently became another commercial success. The song In fondo alla notte found its way into the soundtrack of the horror film La notte del mio primo amore ; Dolcenera also released the EP Dolcenera canta il cinema (with cover versions of well-known songs from film soundtracks) and its own compilation for the German-speaking market (under the title of their second album Un mondo perfetto ).

In March 2007 she completed her first tour of Germany as a support act for Christina Stürmer . She also appeared in two films as an actress, Il nostro Messia and Scrivilo sui muri . The soundtrack to Finché nozze non ci separino again included two songs by Dolcenera. After a long European tour in 2008, Dolcenera returned to Sanremo in 2009 with Il mio amore unico ; however, she did not make it to the final. The album Dolcenera nel paese delle meraviglie was then released , for the first time on a major label ( Sony ).

The single Il sole di domenica announced the singer's fifth album, Evoluzione della specie , in 2011 . That year she also posed for the Italian edition of Playboy , in connection with the release of her single L'amore è un gioco . Together with the British rapper Professor Green , she recorded an English-Italian version of his hit Read All About It (originally with Emeli Sandé ) at the end of the year . In 2012 she started again at the Sanremo Festival with Ci vediamo a casa (the song reached sixth place in the final), and on the third evening she performed with Professor Green. The last album was reissued as Evoluzione della specie² .

In the parliamentary elections in Italy in 2013 , Dolcenera was active as a supporter of the Partito Democratico . She returned in 2014 with the single Niente al mondo , the sixth album Le stelle non tremano was released in 2015 and reached the top five of the charts for the first time. In the 2016 Sanremo Festival , the singer achieved only 15th place with Ora o mai più (le cose cambiano) , the song was included in the new edition Le stelle non tremano (supernovae) . Dolcenera then served as a juror on the fourth season of The Voice of Italy , with her candidate Alice Paba winning.
