content

In a short introduction clip of the band before their performance at the Bundesvision Song Contest, singer Eva Briegel described the meaning of the song as follows:

"Our song 'You lie so beautifully' is by and large about lies and the fact that you sometimes turn a blind eye to an obvious lie in order to be able to carry on as before."

- Eva Briegel : Introduction clip for the Bundesvision Song Contest 2011

publication

You Lie So Beautiful was released on September 17th, 2010 on the album In Love . In June 2011 it was announced that in July the State of Hesse would be represented at the Bundesvision Song Contest 2011 . Six and a half years earlier, the band had won the Bundesvision Song Contest 2005 , the first edition of the show, with Geile Zeit . On September 23, 2011, six days before the competition, the song was released as a download single. It was the first single from July that no longer appeared in physical form. In addition to the single version, the maxi single included an acoustic version of Du liest so schön as well as a live version, from the Große Freiheit in Hamburg, of the song Jessica as B-side .

Appearance at the Bundesvision Song Contest

Before their performance at the Bundesvision Song Contest, the band Juli presented their song on September 26, 2011 on TV total . Like all bands, she also presented an official “election commercial”. The video tells in a self-ironic way how the band members travel through Hesse and try in vain to find people who know the band before they finally end up at a festival where you lie so beautifully about an older band in the local dialect is voiced. This band is the dialect group KORK from Ruttershausen , the hometown of July drummer Marcel Römer . The scenes were recorded on September 4th, 2011 at the Schmaadleckermarkt in Lollar .

On September 29, 2011 the Bundesvision Song Contest took place in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne . Singer Eva Briegel wore a flowing red dress that filled almost the entire stage. Drummer Marcel Römer wore a top hat. In addition, the band was accompanied by three strings who were costumed as bare trees. The dress was designed by the designer Anne Schmuhl, who also designed the trousers of the other band members. Above all, the unusual look of this performance brought the band a lot of media attention, but also a lot of criticism.

The band received the maximum number of twelve points from their home state Hesse, but no points from other federal states, so that they ultimately shared thirteenth place with Doreen (Brandenburg) and Flimmerfrühstück (Saxony-Anhalt).

Music video

Sven Sindt (director) and Barne Peters (camera) shot a music video about You Lie So Beautiful , but it remained unpublished.
