Eliphalet Trask

Eliphalet Trask (born January 8, 1806 in Monson , Hampden County , Massachusetts , †  December 9, 1890 in Springfield , Massachusetts) was an American politician . Between 1858 and 1861 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Massachusetts.

Career

In 1834 Eliphalet Trask came to Springfield, where he worked in an iron foundry. He was one of the founders of St. Paul's Universalist Church in Springfield. He also became President of Hampden Savings Bank and Director of First National Bank . He was also a director of the Mutual Fire Insurance Company . He was also a member of a Masonic Lodge .

Politically, he was successively a member of the Federalist Party , the Whigs , the Know-Nothing Party and the Republicans . He first sat on Springfield City Council and became mayor of that city in 1855. At that time the new town hall was completed. He campaigned against alcohol consumption. He was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1856 and 1857, and again in 1862 .

In 1857 Trask was elected lieutenant governor of Massachusetts as Republican alongside Nathaniel Prentiss Banks . He held this office between 1858 and 1861. He was Deputy Governor . During the civil war he was involved in setting up and equipping units belonging to the Union army . In 1870 he was again a member of the Springfield City Council. He died on December 9, 1890 in Springfield, where he was also buried.
