  • March 5th : With Der Unbekannte , Austria's first large-scale production appears in cinemas. For the first time, the film features numerous well-known stage actors and is extensively advertised. It is also the longest Austrian film production to date.
  • May 20 : For the first time , a film is shown in an Austrian school, the Vienna Citizens' School on Friedrichsplatz in the 15th Viennese district of Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus .
  • The International Cinematographers Congress is held in Vienna . In their speeches, representatives of Austrian film and cinema associations vehemently oppose the prohibition of stage actors to participate in films, against film censorship and for the recognition of film as an art form.
  • In order to achieve an apparent plasticity in the film images, the Viennese Karl Juhasz and Franz Haushofer brought the Wiener Kinoplastikon Ges.mbH into being in a theater on Naschmarkt, later known as the “Wienzeile Kino”. The movie screen is on its own, decorated stage. The Viennese art film industry produced several colored titles especially for this theater in 1913. However, since it did not succeed, the theater did not last long and the idea was forgotten again.
  • Vienna receives its own cinema law, the cinematograph regulation . Every cinema owner needs a license.
