Chaplin as a tramp in Mabel's Busy Day
  • Charles Chaplin starts working for the Keystone Studios on. Filming of his first film Making a Living , directed by Henry Lehrman , will begin in early January and will premiere on February 2nd. On 7 and 9 February, the films are Kid Auto Races at Venice ( Soapbox Race in Venice ), which has been completed in just 45 minutes on January 10, and Mabel's Strange Predicament ( Mabel in embarrassing situation ) published in which Chaplin first time can be seen in the role of the tramp. This was followed by several films with Mabel Normand , but Chaplin repeatedly had problems with the directors and the leading actress. His first directorial debut, Caught in the Rain , will be released on May 4th .

Austria

  • MAY 22: The first propaganda - Documentary Austria is listed in theaters: Our navy . The manufacturer is the WAF - the “Wiener Autorfilms” production company , recently founded by Erich Pommer .
  • September: The first war weekly review in Austria-Hungary appears with the war journal of Wiener Kunstfilm . A few weeks later, the direct competitor, Sascha-Film , follows with its own war newsreel ( Austrian cinema weekly report from the northern and southern theater of war , later for the sake of simplicity: Sascha war weekly report )
  • Jupiter Film has the French Pierre Paul Gilmans direct the first Austrian monumental film in Tyrol : Speckbacher . Original Speckbacher sabers and 2000 extras, also carrying historical weapons, were used for the recordings, in which members of the Exl stage were also involved . Jupiter Film went bankrupt after completing the most complex film in Austrian film history to date.
