Reta Shaw

Reta Shaw (born September 13, 1912 in South Paris , †  January 8, 1982 in Encino ) was an American actress .

Life

Reta Shaw made her acting debut at the age of 41 on the fantasy television show Johnny Jupiter , which was discontinued after two episodes. The most famous role of Shaw in Germany is that of "Mrs. Brill ”in the Oscar-winning film adaptation of Mary Poppins' literature . At the side of Julie Andrews , David Tomlinson , Glynis Johns she played the cook of the Banks family, who is visited by the flying nanny.

The actress was seen in many cinema classics of the 1950s and 1960s, for example in Picnic with William Holden and Kim Novak , Picnic in Pajamas with Doris Day , Everyone loves Pollyanna with Hayley Mills and Jane Wyman , Three times to Mexico with Frank Sinatra and Deborah Kerr and many more films. For the German language versions it was mostly dubbed by Erna Haffner .

However, Shaw was not only present in the film, especially on television, she demonstrated her talent as a comedian. In the course of her career, which lasted more than twenty years, she appeared very often in television series. These include Alfred Hitchcock Presents , the Dick van Dyke Show and its sequel, the Lucille Ball Show , In Love with a Witch , The Odd Couple with Jack Klugman and Tony Randall , Bechanting Jeannie and Date with the Angels with Betty White .

She also appeared in a television adaptation of Meet Me in St. Louis at the side of Myrna Loy and Patty Duke as well as with several film and television projects with Bob Hope . She had her last appearance in 1975 in the Disney science fiction film Escape to Witch Mountain with Eddie Albert and Ray Milland .

Reta Shaw died at the age of 69.
