Gangolfi Church (Erfurt)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gangolfikirche was a church in the old town of Erfurt . It was on the southern corner of Bahnhofstrasse and Schmidtstedter Strasse.

history

A previous building was replaced by a new Gothic hall church around 1350. In the 15th century, the population of the surrounding alleys increased sharply, so that the neighboring Reglerkirche could no longer accommodate all believers and the Gangolfi church served as an alternative. Around 1530 the use of the Gangolfi church for church services ended. From 1673 the church was used as the school house of the Regulator Monastery. After a brief use as a church between 1806 and 1860, the Gangolfi church became a school again. In 1875 the building was sold and demolished.
