The Georgskirche was a church in the old town of Erfurt , located in the Andreasviertel . Today only the church tower , the Georgsturm , remains .

history

The Georgsgemeinde was first mentioned in a document in 1066. In 1132, Widelo, a ministerial official to Archbishop Adalbert of Mainz, founded the church. The tower was built between 1380 and 1426. After the Reformation in 1525, St. George's Church was used as a Protestant and only for funeral services. In 1619 it was profaned and served as a school building before being dismantled in 1632 to obtain building material for the Petersberg Citadel . Only the tower was preserved.
