In the sea of grass meadows is a nature reserve in Verl , Gütersloh , Detmold , with a size of 131 hectares . This makes it one of the larger wetland conservation areas in the Gütersloh district. The area was designated on January 26, 1989 with an area of 128 hectares and extended by 3 hectares on November 13, 1992. It is carried with the number GT-003.
The grassy meadows represent a larger coherent grassland complex, which is particularly important as a habitat for endangered waders and meadow birds . In a survey in 2000, over 40 different breeding bird species were found in the area.
Characteristic
The designated NSG is located in the area of the city of Verl, southwest of the Kaunitz district . While arable land is predominantly found on the edge of the NSG (this makes up 15% of the total area), the inner area is characterized by extensive use of grassland. In addition, artificial banks were created for the purpose of re-watering , which encouraged the settlement of rare plant species.
In addition to the meadow landscape, there is also a near-natural, moist alder forest and numerous rows of trees along streams and ditches. The streams that flow through the Grasmeerwiesen include the Wapelbach and the slightly more northerly Rodenbach . Due to the fish fauna detected in both bodies of water, they were reported to the European Commission in accordance with the Habitats Directive . In addition to management restrictions, this also resulted in a ban on grassland conversion and drainage.
flora
In the area of the four blanks laid out in the area, yellow sedges , swamp whorls and needle ledges were found .
fauna
The endangered species within the proven avifauna include the curlew , the lapwing , the partridge , the small woodpecker , the sparrowhawk , the blackcap and the wagtail . In contrast, the snipe has left the grassy meadows as a breeding ground following the negative trend in the Gütersloh district. In Rodenbach and in the Wapel the could brook lamprey and bullhead are detected.
