The ridge of the Menkhauser Berg is around one kilometer south of the estate, the border to the Bielefeld district of Lämershagen-Gräfinghagen around 500 meters west. One of the two headwaters of the Menkhauser Bach rises on the grounds of the estate park. Including this park, the area of the facility is around one hectare.

history

Gut Menkhausen is a former Meierhof, which was first mentioned in the Busdorf deed of May 25, 1036 as Vorwerk Meginchusen of the nearby main farm Barkhausen . In 1841 the estate was separated from Oerlinghausen to provide financial support to the newly formed community of Senne . It was not until 1969, in the course of the incorporation of Lipperzeile and Helpup , that Gut Menkhausen returned to what is now the city. The Meier zu Menkhausen took over the farm as early as 1467, and in 1871 it was sold to the Steinmeister family due to the debts of the previous owner and then converted into a prestigious residence. A park was created around 1900. The estate is still privately owned today.

Furnishing

The sandstone manor house now has several half-timbered extensions and ancillary buildings. A large stable and farm building, also made of sandstone, has only been preserved on one level after a fire.

The landscaped estate park has two ponds and is planted with numerous rhododendrons , as well as the species of ancient sequoia , magnolia and coastal fir . The park's equipment also includes a sandstone pump house, stone benches, tables, a bridge and a now dilapidated pavilion. Several sculptures were acquired and erected during the 20th century.
