Highest Hopes - The Best of Nightwish is the third compilation album of the symphonic metal band Nightwish after Tales from the Elvenpath (2004) and Best Wishes (2005). It was awarded a double platinum record in Nightwish's homeland, Finland .

History of origin

In 2004, Nightwish's then record company Drakkar Records released a best-of album by the group. This was followed by Best Wishes (2005), which was compiled for the Japanese market. Their new record company Spinefarm Records released their third best-of on September 28, 2005, which spanned the entire band career from their debut Angels Fall First to their last album Once . In addition, two unpublished songs were added: Sleeping Sun in a newly recorded version and a Pink Floyd cover version High Hopes , which also gave its name to the best-of. The song was sung live by Marco Hietala on Nightwish's 2005 tour when Turunen paused.

The extract Sleeping Sun was published on October 19, 2005. The song was written by Tuomas Holopainen at the urging of the record company Drakkar Records and is dedicated to the solar eclipse of August 11, 1999 . It was released in a different version as a bonus track on the album Oceanborn in 1999 and was released as a single in 1999 . For the compilation the piece was slightly revised and re-recorded. The single was released on October 19, 2005 and contained a total of four new versions of the song. In addition, a new video was shot, which was ultimately the last video with singer Tarja Turunen , since Nightwish separated from her in October 2005.
