A West Berlin band that was first a pioneer and then part of the Neue Deutsche Welle was ideal . She was one of the most successful representatives of this genre. Her pieces Blaue Augen , Berlin , Irre , Eiszeit und Monotonie became particularly well known .

Band history

In the spring of 1980, Annette Humpe , Ernst Ulrich Deuker , Frank Jürgen Krüger ( Eff Jott ) and Hans-Joachim Behrendt ( Hansi ) formed the band Ideal.

Annette Humpe played with her sister Inga Humpe with the Neon Babies before she switched from the X-Pectors to Ideal with Frank Jürgen Krüger. In May 1980, Ideal published the first single , produced for the band's own independent label Eitel-Imperial , Wir stand auf Berlin / Men are a dime a dozen, which was quickly sold out as a small edition.

The British rock band Barclay James Harvest , especially successful in Germany, gave an open-air concert on August 30, 1980 in front of the Berlin Reichstag building as a thank you for the many loyal German fans. The 150,000 visitors also saw Ideal, who played in the opening act, which was an important step for the band towards greater media presence. The band also provided the soundtrack for the film Rote Liebe by Rosa von Praunheim in 1980 .

Label of the first album

After the discoverer of the band, the music publisher Klaus D. Mueller (kdm), had only received rejections from the then well-known labels, the first LP with the title Ideal was released in November 1980 on the label " IC " of the German electronic musician Klaus Schulze , a longtime friend and companion of Mueller. The record rose to number 3 on the German LP charts by June 1981. A special feature of this long-playing record was that it had to be played at 45 revolutions per minute (the speed actually intended for singles); Sound advantages were expected from this, but this technique was not retained for further publications. The album cover is against the background of stylized earth a headless man in dress shirt is that his tie binds. Instead of the head there is the band name outlined in red.

The first concerts abroad in Austria and Switzerland followed. In August 1981, Ideal performed in front of 22,000 fans in Berlin's Waldbühne . This appearance as part of the SFB Rock Night was broadcast nationwide. On July 17, 1981, the band gave a concert in Cologne (Sartory halls) that was recorded by WDR as part of the Rockpalast series and released on DVD in 2012 . In addition to the hits from the debut album, titles from the follow-up album Der Ernst des Lebens have already been presented here.

Label of the second album

After that, studio work began on the second album. Together with the producer Conny Plank , Der Ernst des Lebens was created , which was published in October. The record cover again depicts the headless person who is now in a suit and holding a briefcase in his left hand, jumping over a hurdle; The drawing is a parody of a b / w snapshot from 1972, which shows the CDU politician and then party treasurer Walther Leisler Kiep in a businessman's outfit with a briefcase in his left hand, like him sportily over a (presumably) red and white barrier jumps - a satirical allusion to bourgeois existence, the "seriousness of life". Here, too, the band name is written in red instead of the head. The lyrics of the songs are printed on the black and white inlay.

At the same time, Ideal received the gold record for their debut album. This was the first time in Germany that a product from an independent record company was gilded.

The fans saw Ideal at 27 sold-out concerts during the trip 1981/82, which went through the German-speaking stages in November and December. At the final concert in favor of the Berlin squatters, Ideal received the golden record for Der Ernst des Lebens .

In autumn 1982 the third album Bi Nuu was created in Vienna, directed by Micki Meuser and Gareth Jones. In December 1982 it entered the charts, but only reached 20th place. Sales fell short of the record company's expectations. Another planned tour of Germany was canceled.

On March 31, 1983, a telex from the group reached the media: “The Ideal group is disbanding. Ideal was planned as a project from the start, a working group that should exist as long as the differences between the individual members made the work exciting and creative. Our music has always been the result of discussions between four different personalities, not about compromises, but about finding (or inventing) songs that everyone could stand for. In three great years we have got the best out of this constellation. "

In June 1983 the Berlin band released a live album with an encore , a “souvenir, farewell greeting and thank you to the fans” (Ideal).
