J. Lincoln Newhall

Judson Lincoln Newhall (born March 26, 1870 in Quebec , Canada , †  July 23, 1952 in Covington , Kentucky ) was an American politician . Between 1929 and 1931 he represented the state of Kentucky in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lincoln Newhall came to Covington, Kentucky with his parents in 1874. There he attended public schools and Martin's Academy . Between 1896 and 1898 he studied law at Indiana University in Bloomington . Between 1924 and 1926, Newhall took advanced training courses at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio . Between 1899 and 1905 he was an administrative clerk at the federal finance authority. From 1913 to 1917 he served as the school director in charge of music in Covington. During the First World War , Newhall worked for the YMCA. After the war, he continued his work at the schools in Covington.

Newhall was a member of the Republican Party . In the 1928 congressional elections , he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Kentucky , where he succeeded Orie Solomon Ware on March 4, 1929 . Newhall was the first Republican to represent this Democratic- dominated district in Congress . Since he was defeated by Brent Spence in the 1930 elections, he could only serve one term until March 3, 1931.

In 1934, Newhall competed unsuccessfully for his return to Congress. In the following years he worked in the oil and gasoline business. He died in Covington on July 23, 1952.
