Jason Holland (born April 30, 1976 in Morinville , Alberta ) is a former German - Canadian ice hockey player who last played for the DEG Metro Stars in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Jason Holland began his career with the Kamloops Blazers in the Canadian Junior League WHL and was eventually selected in the second round by the New York Islanders in the second round in 38th place during the 1994 NHL Entry Draft . In both 1994 and 1995, the defender won the WHL championship with the Blazers, the Ed Chynoweth Cup , and the Memorial Cup , the championship of the Canadian Hockey League . In 1996 Holland was appointed to the squad of the Canadian junior national team, with which he won the 1996 Junior World Championship in Boston .

Jason Holland stayed with the Blazers as a junior player until 1996 before signing his first professional contract with the Islanders before the 1996/97 season . According to Holland, it was "the greatest moment of [his] career when [he] was allowed to play for the Islanders for the first time." However, the Canadian played most of the games for the Islanders' farm team , the Kentucky Thoroughblades , in American Hockey League . In the 1997/98 season , the right-handed shooter played eight times for the Islanders, but was transferred during the season together with Paul Kruse to the Buffalo Sabers , who in return sent Jason Dawe to New York.

In the Sabers, Jason Holland finally came to another 13 NHL games, but was mostly used in the AHL with the Rochester Americans . From 2001 the defender was under contract with the Los Angeles Kings and was able to deny a full NHL season for the first time in the 2003/04 season. During the lockout in the 2004/05 season , Holland played for a short time in Italy at HC Alleghe before signing a contract in Ingolstadt for the 2005/06 season . In the following years he was in the Ingolstadt squad for four years before moving to league rivals DEG Metro Stars in the summer of 2009. In 2012 he ended his career.

International

Since his grandfather lived in Nuremberg for many years and was a German citizen, Jason Holland also got a German passport in 2006. In 2007 he was appointed to the German national team for the first time.

During the 2008 World Cup , it became known on May 7th, after the 4-2 win against Slovakia , that Jason Holland was not eligible to play for the German national team at the tournament. In 1996 he took part in the U20 World Cup for Canada. Therefore, he should have been active as a player in Germany for four years in a row instead of only three years in a row. Jason Holland was banned from the tournament with immediate effect. The previous results of the German national team were nevertheless confirmed in an extraordinary meeting of the tournament management.
