Jesuborn is a district of the city of Ilmenau in the Ilm district in Thuringia .
geography
Jesuborn is about one kilometer northeast of Gehren on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest . The Langer Berg rises south of the village . The Gehren wetland extends to the north . To the northeast of the village rises the Schulberg, which is the local mountain of Jesuborn with a height of 494 meters . Jesuborn is about 460 meters above sea level. The Wohlrose flows through the place.
history
The first documentary mention of the place dates back to 1368. The village is called czu deme geborn . The name can be traced back to the Indo-European word root jesen , which stands for “wafting up”, “gushing”, “simmering”. The name is named after the bubbling water of the spring there. Jesuborn belonged to the town of Gehren for a short time as early as 1924 . The village was finally incorporated on July 1, 1950.
Until 1920 Jesuborn belonged to the office of Gehren in the sovereignty of the principality or Free State of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . Thereafter, the place belonged to the Arnstadt district , from 1952 to the Ilmenau district and since 1994 to the Ilm district .
Due to the geographical location of the place, which is characterized primarily by a free position in the main weather direction west and by mountains rising in the south and east, Jesuborn is more often affected by storms. On the morning of April 27, 2006, a heavy storm fell over Jesuborn, which brought rain amounts of over 80 l / m² within a few hours. Numerous houses were flooded. On the night of January 19, 2007, the Jesuborn area suffered greatly from the effects of the hurricane-like storm depression Kyrill . Many tree areas in the surrounding Thuringian Forest were literally destroyed.
Attractions
The village's Protestant church was built in 1819 and goes back to an older church. From the previous building, a stone dated 1614 has been preserved in the facade of the church. The church was once surrounded by the village's cemetery, from which the tombstone of a tenant of the nearby Schönheide estate, which has now been sold, has been preserved.
Culture
The traditional Jesuborn Trachtenverein as well as the Heimat- und Bürgererverein (HuBV) are among the largest associations in Jesuborn. Every year they organize many social gatherings, such as the St. Vitus fire or the traditional lentil dinner on New Year's Eve.
politics
Michael Hartung has been the mayor of the district since the local elections in Thuringia on May 26, 2019. Together with four other members, it forms the local council.
Economy and Transport
Jesuborn does not have its own industry, but there are some smaller service companies. The residents commute to work in the surrounding areas.
Jesuborn is on the B 88 , which connects Ilmenau with Rudolstadt .
