Johann Baptist Müller-Melchiors (until 1844: Müller ; also Jean Baptist ) (born March 17, 1815 in Mainz , † January 7, 1872 in Vienna ) was a lawyer and member of the 2nd Chamber of the Land estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Johann Baptist Müller was the son of the wine merchant of the same name in Mainz and his wife Maria Katharina Josefa nee Melchior. In 1844, Müller took the surname Müller-Melchior. In 1847, Müller-Melchiors, who was a Catholic, married Elisabeth Barbara, née Zenzen.

Müller studied law in Giessen. During his studies in 1833 he became a member of the fraternity or the later Corps Palatia Gießen . He completed his studies in 1837 with a doctorate to become Dr. iur. at the University of Giessen . From 1844 he was a court advisor in Mainz, from 1847 a lawyer in Mainz.

Müller-Melchiors joined the Democratic Association as part of the March Revolution in 1848.

From 1849 to 1856 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was first elected for the constituency Rheinhessen 1 / Mainz and then for the constituency Rheinhessen 3 / Ober-Ingelheim. In the Chamber he was the leader of the Democratic Party. In 1853 he fled to the USA for a year. In 1854 he became general director of Phoenix AG for mining and smelting operations . In 1864 Ernst Jeghers followed him as general director.
