John R. Tyson

John Russell Tyson (born November 28, 1856 in Lowndes County , Alabama , † March 27, 1923 in Rochester , Minnesota ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

John Tyson attended public schools. He graduated in 1877 at Howard College in Marion and in 1879 at Washington and Lee University in Lexington ( Virginia ). Tyson studied law , was admitted to the bar in 1879, and then began practicing in Hayneville . He was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives in 1880 . Then in 1884 he moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where he continued his practice as a lawyer. Tyson was elected to the city council in May 1889 and became its president in May 1891. He held this position until October 1892 when he resigned to accept an appointment at the district court. He worked there between 1892 and 1898. He then held the post of associate justice at the Alabama Supreme Court between 1898 and 1906 , and from November 1906 until his resignation on February 28, 1909 that of the Chief Justice . He then resumed his practice in Montgomery.

Tyson was elected to the 67th United States Congress and re-elected to the subsequent 68th Congress . He served in the US House of Representatives from March 4, 1921 until his death in Rochester in 1923. His body was transferred to Montgomery, where he was buried in Oakwood Cemetery .
