Julius Kracker (born June 26, 1839 in Breslau ; † October 2, 1888 ibid) was a German social democratic politician and saddler .

Life

Kracker attended a so-called factory school and then an elementary school until the age of 14. He learned the trade of a saddler . As a journeyman, he made a journey through Germany, Austria-Hungary and Russia. In 1867 he co-founded a workers 'association and a year later he joined the General German Workers' Association (ADAV). In the same year he organized a joint union-like organization for bookbinders, lithographers, saddlers, upholsterers, glove makers and leather workers in Wroclaw. In 1869 and 1870, Kracker was the agent of the ADAV in Breslau.

In 1870 he joined the SDAP . From 1876 Kracker was editor of various social democratic papers in Breslau. Between 1879 and 1885 he was a cigar dealer and then co-owner of a printing company and a publishing house. He also continued to write for various Social Democratic newspapers, among others, The lantern of Carl Hirsch . In 1880, Kräcker was the editor of Karl Marx's wage labor and capital , after corresponding with Friedrich Engels .

Between 1881 and 1888 Julius Kracker was a member of the Reichstag for the "constituency of Breslau 7" (western part of the city of Breslau). During the time of the Socialist Law he played an important role in the illegal party organization. As a party publisher, he founded the company "Julius Kracker Buchdruckerei- und Verlaggeschäft Silesia". He took part in the illegal party convention in Copenhagen in 1888 . Kracker was arrested several times. On July 18, 1887, immediately after the end of the session of the Reichstag, Kracker was arrested on the street in Berlin and held in custody for five months before he was in the 'Breslau secret society trial against Julius Kracker and comrades' (November 7th to 17th, 1887 ) was sentenced to seven months in prison. Easter 1888 he had to enter the prison sentence. He was taken from prison to hospital in September and died of cancer on October 2, 1888.

At the first legal party congress of the SPD in Erfurt in 1890, a wreathed picture by Kracker was hung next to pictures of other deceased former leading Social Democrats in the negotiating room.
