Kimberley Bos (born October 7, 1993 in Ede ) is a Dutch skeleton pilot and former bobsledder. After taking part in bobsleigh at the Winter Youth Olympic Games for the Netherlands in 2012 with Mandy Groot and winning the bronze medal in the two-man bobsleigh competition, she took part in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games for the Netherlands in skeleton .

Career

Career as a bobsledder

Kimberley Bos, who comes from Ede in Gelderland , began bobsleigh in 2009 and was trained as a pilot. Already in 2020 she was appointed to the national team of the Netherlands and in the 2011/12 season she took part in the qualification for the Winter Youth Olympic Games and her and the second Dutch starter Marije van Huigenbosch were two pushers with Sanne Decker and Mandy Grott to disposal. At the two qualifying competitions in Innsbruck on November 5 and 6, 2011, she took fourth and second place respectively. On November 26th and 27th, she took second place in both competitions in Winterberg .

Both Marije van Huigenbosch and Kimberley Bos qualified for the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck . While Marije van Huigenbosch started with Sanne Dekker , Kimberley Bos started together with Mandy Groot and the two of them won the bronze medal in the victory of Marije van Huigenbosch and Sanne Dekker at the artificial ice rink Igls on January 22nd. After the Youth Olympic Games, Kimberley Bos competed with Mandy Groot for the first and only time at the Junior World Bobsleigh Championships and finished 13th on the Innsbruck track.

In the 2012/13 season she made her debut on November 16, 2012 in Innsbruck together with Sanne Dekker in the European Bobsleigh Cup and took eighth place in the competition on the Igls bobsleigh Igls artificial ice rink . In the following two competitions, which were held in Igls on November 17th and 18th , she finished 15th and tenth respectively. At the end of the season, Kimberley Bos finished 15th in the overall ranking of the European Cup with 230 points.

Career as a skeleton driver

For the 2013/14 season, Kimberley Bos switched from bobsleigh to skeleton , where she has competed nationally and internationally ever since. In the 2013/14 season , she made her debut in the European Skeleton Cup on December 7, 2012 . At the race in Innsbruck she finished eighth. One day later, in the second race on the Igls bobsleigh rink , she was able to take eighth place again. Both on December 17, 2013 in Winterberg and on January 12, 2014, she was able to occupy a top ten result in the Skeleton European Cup with sixth and eighth place respectively. At the end of the season she finished tenth in the overall ranking of the European Cup with 190 points. At the end of the season, she took part in the Skeleton Junior World Championships and was able to take tenth place on the Winterberg Hochsauerland bobsleigh run on January 25, 2014 .

At the start of the 2014/15 season , she finished ninth and sixth in the two European Cup competitions in Lillehammer . On January 28, 2014, Kimberley Bos was able to take a podium place for the first time at the competition in Königssee . Behind Lanette Prediger auf Canada and Carina Mair from Austria she took third place at Königssee . One day later, she was able to take eighth place in the second race on the Königssee artificial ice rink . In Winterberg she just missed another podium finish on December 6th with fifth place. In the overall ranking of the European Cup she finished fourth with 314 points at the end of the season. At the end of the season she took part in the Junior World Championship for the second time and finished tenth in Altenberg.

In the 2015/16 season she made her debut on November 19, 2015 in Lake Placid in the Skeleton Intercontinental Cup and finished eighth in the races. A day later she also took eighth place in the second competition on the Mount Van Hoevenberg Olympic bobsleigh run . A week later she made her debut in the North American Skeleton Cup in Whistler, where she finished eighth. On January 7th and 8th, 2016 she finished fifth in both Intercontinental Cup competitions in Innsbruck . On January 23, 2016, she took part in the Skeleton Junior World Championships , winning the silver medal in Winterberg behind Lelde Priedulena from Latvia and ahead of Anna Fernstädt from Germany.

After the Junior World Championships , she took part in the European Cup competitions in St. Moritz on January 27 and 28, 2016 , finishing second behind Mirela Rahneva from Canada and ahead of Janine Becker from Germany. Because of her results in the season she was able to qualify for the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships for the first time . At the 2016 World Championships , she took eighth place on the bobsleigh Igls artificial ice rink on her World Cup debut. At the end of the season, she took part in the North American Cup competitions in Park City and Lake Placid . On March 4th and 5th, she won the bobsleigh run in Park City ahead of Canadian Jaclyn Laberge and Veronica Day from the USA. She won the Mount Van Hoevenberg Olympic bobsleigh run on March 17, 2016 ahead of Veronica Day and the British Madelaine Smith . A day later, she also won the second competition in Lake Placid before Veronica Day and the South Korean Mun Rayoung . In the overall ranking of the North American Cup, she finished fourth with her four wins with 336 points.

In the 2016/17 season, Kimberley Bos competed in all skeleton racing series and began her season in Innsbruck on November 10, 2016 with a win in the Intercontinental Cup ahead of Megan Henry from the USA and the Canadian Lanette Prediger . One day later she was able to win the second race on the bobsleigh Igls artificial ice rink ahead of Lanette Prediger and Maria Marinela Mazilu from Romania. After she won the second North America Cup race in Whistler on November 26, 2016 in Whistler ahead of Marija Orlowa from Russia and Mirella Rahneva , she made her debut in Whistler in the Skeleton World Cup on December 2, 2016, and took her place Debut in 20th place. At her second World Cup start on December 17th in Lake Placid , she finished in twelfth place for the first time and finished in the top 15.

After the turn of the year, she finished seventh in Winterberg on January 15, 2017 , thus reaching her first top ten place. At the World Cup in Winterberg, Race-in-Race also saw the European skeleton championships , with Kimberley Bos taking fifth place. A week later, on January 20th, she took 5th place in St. Moritz . The following week she took part in the 2017 Skeleton Junior World Championships on the Sigulda bobsleigh track and failed to win a medal with fifth place. In Königssee she took part in the bobsleigh and skeleton world championships for the second time in her career and took 14th place at the 2017 world championships on the Königsee artificial ice rink . After the World Championships, the Pre-Olympic Test World Cup took place on March 17, 2017 in Pyeongchang . Behind Jacqueline Lölling from Germany and Jelena Nikitina from Russia, she took third place for the first time on the podium at this World Cup. At the end of the season she finished twelfth in the overall World Cup with 988 points.

She started the 2017/18 Olympic season on November 9, 2017 with a twelfth place at the Skeleton World Cup in Lake Placid . She achieved her best result of the season on December 15, 2017 in Innsbruck when she finished seventh. Race-in-Race also took place at the Olympic Sliding Center Innsbruck the European Championship held in which Kimberley Bos finished fifth. After the turn of the year on January 5, 2018, she also took seventh place in Altenberg . At the end of the season she finished 14th in the overall World Cup with 905 points. The Netherlands actually had two starting places at the 2018 Winter Olympics . But on January 16, 2018, only Kimberley Bos was nominated by the National Olympic Committee of the Netherlands and Joska le Conte was not nominated for the Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang . After four runs in the Olympic Sliding Center , Kimberley Bos finished eighth.

She started the 2018/19 season on November 23, 2018 in the Skeleton Intercontinental Cup and only finished 13th in the race in Winterberg . One day later, she finished eleventh in the second race in the Veltins ice arena . After starting the World Cup 2018/19 on December 9, 2018 in Sigulda with ninth place, after the turn of the year on January 25, 2019, she finished eighth in St. Moritz, her best result of the season. In the end, she finished 13th in the overall World Cup with 984 points. At the end of the season, she competed in the Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships and finished 13th in the Whistler Sliding Center at the 2019 World Championships .

Having in the first four World Cup races of the 2019/20 season could not occupy a place among the top 15 starters, she launched on 31 January 2020 Pyeongchang in Intercontinental 2019/20 . In these races she finished second behind the American Katie Uhlaender and ahead of the Chinese Zhu Yangqi . One day later, Kimberley Bos won the second race at the Olympic Sliding Center ahead of the two Americans Kelly Curtis and Katie Uhleander. In Sigulda she started the last race of the season of the Skeleton World Cup on February 16 and took eighth place, which she also took in the separate European Championship standings. At the end of the season, after four runs in Altenberg , she finished 15th at the 2020 Bobsleigh and Skeleton World Championships .
