The Sömmerda district was a district in the Erfurt district of the GDR from 1952 to 1990 . From 1990 it existed as the district of Sömmerda in the state of Thuringia . His area is now in the Sömmerda district in Thuringia. The seat of the district administration was in Sömmerda .

history

On July 25, 1952, a comprehensive district reform took place in the GDR . The new Sömmerda district was closed

  • the communities Gangloffsömmern, Favoredt, Henschleben, Kranichborn, Orlishausen, Riethgen, Rohrborn, Schallenburg, Scherndorf, Schwerstedt, Sömmerda, Sprötau, Straussfurt, Tunzenhausen, Vogelsberg, Waltersdorf, Weißensee, Wenigensömmern, Werningshausen and Wundersleben from the smaller district of Erfurt ,
  • the communities Bachra, Beichlingen, Büchel, Dermsdorf, Frohndorf, Griefstedt, Großmonra, Kölleda, Leubingen, Ostramondra, Roldisleben, Rothenberga, Schillingstedt and Stödten from the dissolved district of Kölleda ,
  • the communities Herrnschwende, Kindelbrück and Ottenhausen from the smaller district of Sondershausen and
  • the communities Buttstädt, Ellersleben, Eßleben, Großbrembach, Großneuhausen, Guthmannshausen, Hardisleben, Kleinbrembach, Kleinneuhausen, Mannstedt, Olbersleben, Rastenberg, Rudersdorf and Teutleben from the smaller district of Weimar

formed and assigned to the newly formed district of Erfurt. The seat of the district was the city of Sömmerda.

On May 17, 1990, the name of the district was changed to Sömmerda district . On the occasion of the reunification of the two German states, the district became part of the re-established state of Thuringia in October 1990 .

In national road traffic, the district area was opened up by the F 4 towards Nordhausen and Erfurt , the F 85 towards Weimar , the F 86 towards Sangerhausen and the F 176 towards Eisenach and Naumburg . The closest autobahn was the Eisenach – Görlitz autobahn , which led past the district to the south.

The railway traffic served in the north-south direction the lines Nordhausen-Straussfurt-Erfurt and Sangerhausen-Sömmerda-Erfurt and in the west-east direction the branch lines Ballstädt-Straussfurt and Straussfurt-Großheringen .

License Plate

Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinguishing signs starting with the pair of letters LV from about 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was LX 00-01 to LX 20-00 .

At the beginning of 1991 the district received the distinguishing mark SÖM .

Incorporations and associations

During the existence of the Sömmerda district from 1952 to 1990, the following communities were dissolved:

  • Dissolution of the municipality of Stödten - incorporation into Leubingen (July 1, 1961)
  • Dissolution of the communities of Eßleben and Teutleben - merger to form the community of Eßleben-Teutleben (March 14, 1974)
  • Dissolution of the communities Rohrborn and Wenigensömmern - incorporation into Sömmerda (March 14, 1974)

Reclassifications of municipalities
