Leezdorf is a municipality with 1811 inhabitants in the joint municipality of Brookmerland in the Aurich district in East Friesland .
history
Leezdorf is one of the youngest communities in Brookmerland . It was not until 1765, after the “Reclamation Act” made intensive settlement possible, that the first bog colonists moved to the newly created place.
In the fall of 1793 occurred in Leezdorf after a very rainy summer with strong rainfalls led to a Moor outbreak . Around 57 hectares of peatland, some of which were already cultivated or dug up for cultivation, were buried.
In 1869 Leezdorf finally became independent, when it was branched off at the request of Osteel and the local council had given its approval. The President of the Province of Hanover also approved this procedure and Leezdorf was declared an "independent political municipality" with an announcement in the official gazette on April 20, 1869.
In contrast to many other villages, a scattered settlement emerged in Leezdorf , which can still be seen today in the settlement structure. In the meantime, however, there is a town center with a large market square, around which village and mill festivals take place regularly ( Leezdorfer Mühle ).
