Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth Koren (born August 1, 1984 in Ski , Norway ) is a former Norwegian handball player . She played for Larvik HK and in the Norwegian national handball team . In 2008 she was elected world handball player.

Career

In the club

Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth Koren started playing handball at the age of four in her home town at Ski IL Håndball, where she was trained by her mother, among other things. She also played soccer until she was 15 . In 1999 she joined the Holmlia Sports Club. A year later Riegelhuth moved to Furuset Håndballklubb. Here, the then youth player was also able to collect match practice in the women's team, which competed in the 1st division, the second highest Norwegian league.

In 2002 Riegelhuth signed a contract with the Norwegian top club Larvik HK . When her teammate Kristine Duvholt Havnås became pregnant in the fall of 2002, she received a large share of the game from then on. In her first season, the left-handed player , who played in the right back or on the right wing , also won the championship. In the following seasons she developed into a high performer in Larvik. After Riegelhuth had to share the top scorer crown of the Norwegian elite series with Linn Jørum Sulland in the 2005/06 season , she set a new league record one season later with 221 goals in one season. In addition to five other championship titles with Larvik (2005 to 2009), she won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2005 and 2008 .

In the summer of 2009 Riegelhuth moved to the Danish first division club FCK Håndbold . In January 2, 2010 she won the Danish Cup with the FCK coached by Anja Andersen . In the regular 2009/10 season, FCK took first place. The Norwegian scored a total of 124 goals in 22 championship games and finished second in the scorers list with Ann Grete Nørgaard . In the play-offs of the 2009/10 season, however, the FCK did not manage to qualify for the championship finals.

In summer 2010 Riegelhuth returned to Larvik HK. With Larvik, she won the championship in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 and the EHF Champions League in 2011 . On January 7, 2015, she played her 500th competitive game for Larvik. She has been on maternity leave since May 2015. In March 2016 she celebrated her comeback in the league game against Rælingen Håndballklubb . On September 24, 2017, she played the last game of her career against Glassverket IF . After Riegelhuth Koren had been on maternity leave from October 2017, she announced the end of her career in December 2018.

In the national team

Riegelhuth Koren initially put on the jersey of the Norwegian youth national team 14 times. Then she was used 27 times for the Norwegian junior selection, with which she won the bronze medal at the 2003 Junior World Championships.

The left-hander made her senior national team debut on September 23, 2003. That same year, she took the World Championship part in their first major tournament. After Norway failed to qualify for the Olympic Games , Riegelhuth was part of the Norwegian squad at the 2004 European Championships . With Norway she was in the final, which Norway won with 27:25 against Denmark . Riegelhuth contributed five goals to the final victory. At the 2005 World Cup , she was unable to participate due to a serious hand injury.

Riegelhuth returned to the national team in April 2006. At the end of the year she took part in the European Championships in Sweden. With Norway she managed to defend the European title against Russia . A year later she was again in the final of the World Cup against Russia, but this time the Russian selection successfully prevailed. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , Norway and Russia faced each other in the final. In the 34:27 final victory over Russia, Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth was the most dangerous player of the encounter with nine goals.

With Norway she managed to defend the European Championship again in 2008 . Riegelhuth won the top scorer's crown with 51 goals and was elected to the Allstar team. With the Norwegian selection, she finished third at the 2009 World Cup in China and was re-elected to the Allstar team. A year later, Riegelhuth triumphed with the Norwegian team for the fourth time in a row at the European Championship .

Riegelhuth played her fourth World Cup in 2011 in Brazil . With a 32:24 win over France , she won the world title for the first time. In the summer of 2012, Riegelhuth Koren again took part in the Olympic Games , where she again won the gold medal. On October 6, 2012, Riegelhuth scored her 800th international goal for Norway, which was only achieved before her by Kjersti Grini , Cathrine Roll-Matthiesen , Susann Goksør Bjerkrheim and Trine Haltvik . At the EM 2012 in Serbia , she was in the EM final, which Montenegro won for the fifth time in a row . At the 2013 World Cup , she was eliminated with Norway in the quarter-finals. During the tournament she scored 13 goals in seven games. When she triumphed in the 2014 European Championship final , she was the most successful player in her team with ten goals. She won the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .

Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth Koren has a German father. Her sister Betina Riegelhuth also plays in the highest Norwegian league. In summer 2011 she married the Norwegian handball player Einar Sand Koren . In December 2015, she gave birth to a daughter.
