Forsthaus: wooden house | Am Forsthaus 1 (map) |
1936 (forester's house) | Distinctive building with a pitched roof and balconies, enlivened by folding shutters, characteristic wooden house around 1930, structural testimony to the architectural movement of that time, to offer inexpensive and solidly designed residential houses also in prefabricated construction, historically important and rare
The forester's house at Am Forsthaus 1 in Dresden, OT Dresdner Heide, built by Erich Loebell in 1936, is a largely original example of a wooden house made by Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau for business and public purposes. Since the 1920s, the Hellerauer Werkstätten had developed into one of the leading German companies in timber house construction (light prefabrication of residential buildings) alongside the companies Christoph & Unmack from Niesky and Allgemeine Häuserbau AG from Berlin. This was achieved through the introduction of various technical innovations and economical manufacturing processes. Important architects such as Richard Riemerschmid, Hans Poelzig, Heinrich Tessenow and later Bruno Paul provided numerous designs for the uncomplicated wooden houses. They were able to fall back on many years of experience in standardized small house construction in the garden city of Hellerau. The monument property of the forester's house Am Forsthaus 1 results from its clear testimony value for the development of the prefabrication of residential houses, which was of great importance for the construction industry in the twenties and thirties. In addition to its general importance in terms of building history, its rarity as one of the few wooden houses in Dresden for public and business purposes also plays a role. |
