Loose is the third album by the Portuguese - Canadian pop - singer Nelly Furtado , the June 9, 2006 outside of North America was published. It was released in the United States and Canada on June 20.

Furtado worked with producer Timbaland on the production of the album , which was also reflected in the style of the album. After the two previous albums, which were more likely to be assigned to pop music and folk and only had slight hip-hop influences, contemporary R&B and hip-hop now came to the fore. Furthermore, a kind of change of image followed , as Furtado emphasized her sexuality more.

Loose is Furtados' most successful album to date and made it to the top of the album charts in many countries (including the USA, Canada and Germany ). In Germany, Loose was in the top ten of the German album charts for a total of 49 weeks, including eight weeks at number one. It is the most successful album in 2007 in Germany. Over eight million units of the album have already been sold worldwide.

Loose is named after the spontaneous and creative choices Nelly Furtado made while working on her third album. Here she worked for the first time with several producers at the same time and thus pursued a more collaborative approach. The producer Timbaland is largely responsible for the style of the album, as he was involved in the production of most of the tracks. This time, Furtado experimented mainly with hip-hop and R&B, but also with elements of the music of the 1980s and called this new style "punk-hop". Likewise, the songs on Loose should be similar to the demo tapes and shouldn't be revised too often, as was the case with the songs on the two previous albums. While working on Loose , Furtado was also enthusiastic about electro and hard rock , for example from the bands System of a Down or Death from Above 1979 , which influenced the rock sound of some pieces on the album.

Ten of the twelve titles were produced by Timbaland and Danja . Furthermore, it was Lester Mendez , who has, among other things with Shakira has collaborated in the production of Loose involved. In addition, Nelly Furtado recorded other songs with The Neptunes , Nellee Hooper and Scott Storch , which were not considered in the final song selection.

With the title Te busqué , Furtado was supported by Juanes after she herself was heard on the song Fotografía from his Latin Grammy- winning album Un día normal . In addition, Chris Martin , the front man of the band Coldplay , was involved in the creation of the track All Good Things (Come to an End) , which he wrote together with Furtado. After his record label EMI asked to remove his voice from the song, All Good Things (Come to an End) was only released with the voice of Furtado.

The melody and bassline of the song Do It are very similar to the Chiptune Acid Jazzed Evening by the Finnish demo scene musician Janne Suni (aka Tempest of Damage ), who won the “Oldskool” competition at Assembly 2000 with it. This led to plagiarism allegations against Nelly Furtado and Timbaland at the end of 2006.
