Chris Martin (2017)

Chris Martin (* 2 March 1977 as Christopher Anthony John Martin in Exeter , County Devon ) is a British composer , pianist , guitarist and frontman and singer of the British band Coldplay . He is also a member of the band Aid 30 .

Life

Martin was born to music teacher Alison Martin and accountant Anthony Martin. He has four younger siblings. Martin studied Ancient History at University College London and also worked as a sign painter. In college, he met Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion in 1996, with whom he eventually formed Coldplay. He was married to Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow from December 2003 . With her he has a daughter named Apple Blythe Alison Martin, born on May 14, 2004 in London . They also have a son named Moses Bruce Anthony, who was born in New York on April 9, 2006 . Moses was also the name of a song that Martin wrote for Paltrow in 2003, but which is only included on the live album Live 2003 . In March 2014, the couple announced their separation after more than 10 years of marriage. The separation inspired Martin during the production of Coldplay's sixth studio album Ghost Stories (May 16, 2014), which tells the story of a man who, after a breakup, goes through times of different emotional phases to accept the new situation. The marriage was divorced in July 2016. Until 2019, Chris Martin was in a relationship with actress Dakota Johnson .

Martin supports the development aid organization Oxfam , the Make Poverty History movement and the purchase of fair trade products ( Make Trade Fair ). As a sign of his solidarity with the various aid organizations, Martin wore two black bars (equality symbol) on the back of his left hand during many concerts with Coldplay. His piano was also decorated with the two beams for a while, but is now completely painted with graffiti. The presumption that Martin eats a purely plant-based ( vegan ) diet was denied by him. He is left-handed when writing , but right-handed when playing guitar and painting.

additional

William Willett , the inventor of summer time , is Martin's great-great-grandfather.

Coldplay's first studio album "Ode to deodorant / brothers + sisters" (1998) had a circulation of just 300 copies and is now worth several thousand euros.

On the occasion of the Grammy Awards 2020 a tribute concert for Prince took place on January 28, 2020 in the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles under the motto "Let's Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince", in which Martin performed the song Manic with Susanna Hoffs Monday sang. The concert aired on U.S. television on April 21, 2020, the fourth anniversary of Prince's death.

So I could kill a squirrel, no problem, but I couldn't kill a cow, I would always feel bad. So I feel like when people were hunting 10,000 years ago they had to kill their food. So I always feel like 'I'll eat what I would be comfortable to hunt'. So I don't want to kill a pig, I know I couldn't do that. I could kill a chicken, no problem. I've done it. "
