Since an illness prevented him from accompanying the professionals to the summer training camp, he trained sporadically with the professionals after the winter break. For the game on March 31, 2007 against Eintracht Frankfurt , he was appointed to the Bundesliga squad for the first time by coach Jos Luhukay . On June 13, 2007, Marin concluded a professional contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach that was valid until June 30, 2010 . From this point on he was an integral part of the Gladbach professional squad. He scored his first two league goals for Borussia on April 13, 2008 in a 3-0 home win against SpVgg Greuther Fürth . He also contributed a total of 13 assists in the 2007/08 season , making him one of the most successful goal setter in the 2nd Bundesliga . At the end of the season, Marin achieved immediate promotion back to the Bundesliga with Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he was again one of the team's most important assists.

Werder Bremen

Marin played 15 times in the first 15 competitive games of the season (nine league times, two DFB Cups , four Europa leagues ).

Chelsea FC

For the 2012/13 season Marin moved to Chelsea . After he had initially played no role under Roberto Di Matteo and only appeared once in the League Cup and twice in the U21 , he made his Premier League debut on November 28, 2012 under the new coach Rafael Benítez . In the goalless draw against Fulham FC he was substituted on for Eden Hazard in the 82nd minute . al-Ahli (Saudi Arabia)

After 58 competitive games for Belgrade in the league, cup and Champions League, in which the midfielder contributed 11 goals and 24 assists, he moved to the Saudi Arabian first division club al-Ahli SC at the beginning of January 2020 .

National team

Since Marin's birthplace is in what is now Bosnia and Herzegovina , he had dual citizenship until the end of January 2008 and would also have been eligible to play for Bosnian national teams. However, he decided on the DFB . There he went through all youth national teams up to the U18 selection , in which he was one of the top performers. Then he skipped the next two age groups and was used on August 21, 2007 against Ireland for the first time in the U21 .

In February 2007, Marin was nominated alongside Björn Kopplin from FC Bayern Munich II and Manuel Fischer from VfB Stuttgart as one of three Germans for the UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup , in which a European and an African U18 team competed against each other. Here he was one of the top performers of the European selection, which prevailed against the African selection on February 27, 2007 with 6: 1 and on March 1, 2007 with 4: 0.

Marko Marin was appointed to the expanded squad for the 2008 European Championship by national coach Joachim Löw on May 16, 2008 . In the course of the EM preparations Marin played his first international match against Belarus on May 27, 2008 in Kaiserslautern . The next day Löw announced that Marin would not be part of the German EM squad.

On August 20, 2008, he scored his first international goal in a test international against the selection of Belgium , his second A international match, seven minutes after being substituted on.
