Mathieu Turcotte

Mathieu Turcotte (born February 8, 1977 in Sherbrooke , Québec ) is a Canadian short tracker .

Mathieu Turcotte began ice skating at the age of seven. He lives in Montréal and runs for Club Sherbrooke. In Canada's national short track team he is trained by Olympic champion Derrick Campbell . He made his debut in the World Cup in 1999. He achieved his first gold success in the World Cup in 2004 in Bormio , Italy and in the 2004/2005 season he completed the 500-meter competitions as best runner. At world championships he was able to win the world championship title twice with the relay in 2005 or 2006. Over the 1500 meter distance, Mathieu holds the Canadian record and together with his colleagues ( Tremblay , Hamelin , Robillard ) he holds the relay world record. With the company APEX Racing Skates, of which he is president and co-founder, he develops ice skates for speed skating and short track sports.

At the 1998 Winter Olympics , he was only taken as a substitute. For the first time in competitions at the Olympics, he took part in the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City . With the relay, the Canadians got gold and Mathieu Turcotte won the bronze medal over 1000 meters. At the 2006 Games in Turin , his third Olympic medal came in second place in the relay.
