Minowa ( Japanese : 箕 輪 町 , -machi ) is a city in Kamiina-gun in Nagano Prefecture on the Japanese main island of Honshu . With over 25,000 inhabitants, it is the largest county town in the prefecture.
geography
Minowa is located in the north of the Ina Basin on the Tenryū River . On April 1, 2013, around 25,373 people lived in an area of 86.12 km². The mountain ranges of the Kiso Mountains and Ina Mountains belong to the administrative area of Minowa . Adjacent municipalities are the large cities ( shi ) Ina and Suwa as well as the city of Tatsuno and the village ( mura ) Minamiminowa (each belonging to Kamiina-gun).
history
On February 18, 1875, the villages of Nakaminowa and Higashiminowa were created by merging several settlements. However, on August 10, 1881, the settlements of Fukuyo and Mikkamachi were spun off from Higashiminowa. With the establishment of the modern communal system on April 1, 1889, Fukuyo and Mikkamachi were merged to form the village of Minowa. Nakaminowa and Higashiminowa were converted into administrative units without any territorial changes. On November 3, 1948, Nakaminowa became a city. The city of Minowa was finally founded on January 1, 1955 by merging the city of Nakaminowa with the villages of Minowa and Higashiminowa.

Minowa by passing Iida line of JR Central . In Minowa there are three connections on this line with the train stations Ina-Matsushima, Kinoshita and Sawa. In addition, local public transport is served by buses.
National Road 153 and the Chūō Highway run through Minowa . The Ihoku junction and the Minowa express bus stop are on the motorway.
Educational institutions
There are a total of seven schools in Minowa, all of which are publicly owned. The city has five elementary schools and one middle school. The high school in Minowa is run by the prefecture.
