Nikola Bilyk (also Mykola Bilyk ; born November 28, 1996 in Tunis , Tunisia ) is an Austrian handball player .

Career

Born in Tunisia as the son of the Ukrainian handball goalkeeper Serhij Bilyk , the Viennese began his active professional career in 2012 at the handball club Fivers Margareten , where his father was also active for a long time. Before that he was already active for the same club in various youth leagues. After his first season with the Margaretners , he was named "Newcomer of the Year" by the league. In the 2013/14 season , Bilyk was suspended for some games because of insulting the referee. On March 4, 2014, at the age of only 17, he made his debut in the Austrian national team and scored two goals in a friendly against Germany. He is also part of the junior national team born in 1994 and younger, which participated in the HLA season 2013/14 as Team 94 out of competition. In the same year he ran for his home club in both the Handball League Austria and the Handball Bundesliga Austria . In 2012/13 , 2014/15 and 2015/16 he was able to secure the ÖHB Cup with the handball club Fivers Margareten . In the last season before his move to the German Bundesliga, Bilyk secured the Austrian championship title with the Viennese.

With Team 94 he took part in the European Youth Championships in 2012 and 2014 and came in 6th each time. In addition, he was awarded 55 goals in the 2014 competition as the best goalscorer of the tournament, the best back center player and the most valuable player .

When he took part in the 2015 World Handball Championship in Qatar , Bilyk was used in all six Austrian games and scored ten goals.

In February 2015, the German record champions THW Kiel announced that they had signed a three-year contract with Bilyk and that Bilyk would move to Kiel in 2017 at the latest. In favor of THW, Bilyk turned down an offer from FC Barcelona . In December 2015, Kiel announced that they had agreed with Margareten on an early change of Bilyk in July 2016.

At the European handball championship 2020 , Bilyk became the third-best goalscorer of the entire tournament with 46 goals in the 7 games of the Austrian national team.

Private

Nikola Bilyk's father Serhij was also an active handball player until 2016. The Ukrainian-born handball goalkeeper played at Espérance Sportive de Tunis in Tunisia and from 1999 to 2016 for the handball club Fivers Margareten .
