Oktjabrski ( Russian Октябрьский ) is an urban-type settlement in northwestern Russia . It belongs to Arkhangelsk Oblast and has 9307 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
Oktjabrski lies on the left bank of the Ustja , a right tributary of the Waga . The settlement is located about 405 kilometers south of the Oblast capital Arkhangelsk . The closest city is Welsk, about 55 kilometers to the west .
The settlement is the administrative center of the Ustya district .
history
Oktyabrsky was founded in 1950 and received urban-type settlement status in 1958.

Infrastructure
Four kilometers southeast of the village is the Kostyljowo station on the Konoscha - Kotlas - Vorkuta railway line built during World War II ( Pechora railway , 888 km from Moscow , 182 from Konoscha).
Culture and sights
The Museum of Ustya District is located in Oktyabrsky. The director of the museum is Natalia Valentinovna Ipatova; Research assistant and museum guide is Mikhail Michajlowitsch Abramow. It was founded in 1984 and was initially located in the former district capital in Schangaly. The exhibition shows objects from the world of Ustyan farmers and the history of the region.
