The Olympic Swimming Pool , also known as the Olympiabad , is a swimming pool in the Munich Olympic Park . It was built for the 1972 Summer Olympics and has been operated by Stadtwerke München (SWM) since 2007 .

The swimming pool is part of the Munich Olympic Park, which is located on the Oberwiesenfeld in the Milbertshofen-Am Hart district. The bathroom is located north of the Olympic lake and between the 200 meters further west Olympic Stadium and 100 meters further east Olympic Tower on Coubertinplatz first

The nearest underground station , Olympiazentrum , is 800 meters northwest of the swimming pool and is served by the U3 and U8 lines. The stop is also served by a bus line.

The Olympic swimming pool was built for the 1972 Summer Olympics, when all Olympic swimming and jumping competitions as well as the water polo finals took place in it. The American Mark Spitz was able to win seven gold medals, each in world record time, something that no one before him had achieved before. One year after the Olympic Games, Olympiapark München GmbH opened the swimming pool for public bathing. In 2007, SWM took over the swimming pool from Olympiapark München GmbH as operator.

Even today, German championships, Olympic qualifications and the training of numerous swimming athletes take place in the swimming pool. Also, the TV total high diving was - held annually from 2004 to 2015 in the swimming pool - with the exception of 2005 and of 2006.

A general renovation took place between 2017 and 2019. In mid-March 2019, the Olympic swimming pool was fully available again and the competition and teaching pool, the diving pool and the new children's paddling area can be used. The remaining areas were opened on November 15, 2019.

The roof of the swimming pool designed by Günter Behnisch's architectural office is part of the Olympic tent roof, which also covers parts of the Olympic Stadium and the Olympic Hall . In addition to an indoor pool, the swimming pool offers a sunbathing area, a sauna and, for members, the M fitness center, the Olympic swimming pool. There are a total of six pools with 2,300 square meters of water on the site. Two 50-meter lanes are reserved for sport swimmers.

In addition to a non-swimmer area, there is a paddling area and a 20 square meter hot tub . A 10-meter diving platform with five platforms and seven diving boards is also located in the hall area. The stadium has a grandstand for large events.

The swimming pool has numerous saunas that are heated to different temperatures. The baths and saunas are open daily; on Tuesdays the sauna is reserved for women. The Olympic swimming pool is used by the ZHS .

Selected athletes will be immortalized in the Munich Olympic Walk of Stars .

In the summer, the cinema at the Olympic lake takes place in the open space, the sunbathing area of ​​the Olympic swimming pool . It supports the association BISS eV (the proceeds from returnable bottles collected at the entrance are donated) and Kulturraum eV (needy Munich residents and asylum seekers are given the opportunity to attend cultural events).
