The Böblingen sports hall was a multi-purpose hall built in 1966 in the town of Böblingen in Baden-Württemberg , which was demolished in early 2008 for economic reasons. Most recently, due to legal restrictions, it offered space for around 6,000 people.
history
The construction of the hall was decided by the local council on April 24, 1963. After the topping-out ceremony on June 3, 1965, the sports hall was inaugurated on September 24, 1966. Before the opening of the Schleyerhalle in Stuttgart , it was the venue for major events in the Stuttgart region . Until it was closed in December 2007, well-known TV shows such as Musik ist Trumpf , Wetten, dass ..? , Candid Camera? , The great show of natural wonders and the German Song Festival take place in the hall. During the State Garden Show in 1996 it was used as an exhibition space.
The sports hall has always been a concert venue for well-known rock and pop stars and bands. Performers of folk music were also frequent guests.
Preliminary round matches of the 1972 Olympic handball tournament were played in the hall. Other sporting events that took place in this hall included games of the European league in table tennis and competitions for young people trained for the Olympics .
demolition
The more than 40-year history of the Böblingen sports hall ended with the demolition party on December 29, 2007. On January 28, 2008, the demolition of the event hall began. The hall was demolished because it was in need of renovation and could no longer be repaired cost-effectively with estimated renovation costs of ten million euros, for example a high proportion of health-hazardous asbestos was used. In 2012, the construction of residential areas started on the vacated area. From now on, the Böblingen Congress Hall will serve as the venue .
New building plans
Efforts are under way to build a new multi-purpose hall to replace the popular sports hall. The new event hall will cost between 18 and 25 million euros and offer up to 5,000 seats. The Stockbrünnele area next to the Theodor Heuss School on Herrenberger Straße was discussed as a location .
