Guinea first took part in the Olympic Games at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City . The West African nation was able to qualify for the soccer tournament, but was eliminated there in the group stage.

The Olympic team coached by Naby Camara lost their first game against France 1: 3, in the second game they won their first victory against Colombia 3: 2. In the decisive game, Guinea lost hosts Mexico 4-0, which ultimately meant third place in Group A.
