Canada took part in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City with a delegation of 139 athletes (111 men and 28 women) in 124 competitions in 14 sports. In the medal table, the nation took 23rd place. The most successful athlete was the then 17-year-old swimmer Elaine Tanner with three medals, two silver medals in individual competitions and one bronze medal in the relay. The swimmer Ralph Hutton also won a silver medal. The show jumping relay team achieved the only Olympic victory. The youngest participant was the gymnast Teresa McDonnell with 14 years and 318 days. The oldest participant was Zoltan Sztehlo, who was 46 years old and 333 days old. The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was the rower Roger Jackson .
