The Pikes Peak International Raceway is a permanent race track facility in Fountain , Colorado that opened in 1997. In addition to a one- mile long D-oval , there is a 2.09-  kilometer permanent road course.

Between 1997 and 2005 the oval races of the Indy Racing League were held, between 1998 and 2005 also races of the NASCAR Busch Series and until 2002 races of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series . Every year motorcycle races were held on the permanent circuit . In addition, the first two rallycross races ( Global Rallycross Championship ) were held here in 2011 , won by Tanner Foust (June 17th) and Marcus Grönholm (June 18th).

In 2005 the track was shut down and IndyCar and NASCAR races were ended. In 2008 the track was reopened with the focus now on local racing series and amateur motorsport. The oval, like Rockingham Speedway and Texas World Speedway , is becoming increasingly important as a test track for NASCAR, as NASCAR regulations prohibit test drives during the season on racetracks that are part of the current season calendar.
