Psalm 94
The 94th Psalm (according to Greek counting the 93rd) belongs in the fourth book of Psalms . In terms of its genre, it belongs to the series of lamentations with influences from wisdom poetry.
structure
The Old Testament scholar Hermann Gunkel suggests the following structure:

Verses 1-7: Folk Lament
- Verse 1 f .: introductory "cry for help"
- Verses 3–7: Lament against the enemy:
- Verse 4: They Triumph
- Verse 5: They humble YHWH's people
- Verse 6: They put the helpless to death
- Verse 7: They do not fear divine judgment

Verses 8-11: Sermon to those who despise God
- Verse 8: Introduction
- Verses 9-11: Main part of the sermon: There is one who rebukes the nations

Verses 12–15: Consolation for the upright
- Verse 12 f .: blessing
- Verse 14 f .: certainty

Verses 16–23: lament of an individual
- Verse 16: Lament
- Verses 17-19: Remembering God's help
- Verse 20 f .: lament again
- Verse 22 f .: certainty of hearing
Dating
Ferdinand Hitzig bases the psalm on the story of Backides and Alkimos in Book 1 of the Maccabees 7,8 ff. EU . Bernhard Duhm dates the psalm to the time under Alexander Jannäus . Hermann Gunkel sees no scientific value in these dates.
