Career as a player
Palikuća began his professional career at VfL Trier . In 2000 he moved to the Oberliga Südwest for FSV Salmrohr , where he stayed for three and a half years. During the winter break of the 2003/04 season, Palikuća went to FC St. Pauli in the North Regional Football League . In the DFB Cup 2005/06 he reached the semi-finals against FC Bayern Munich with the Hanseatic League . In the round of 16 against Hertha BSC , Palikuća scored the winning goal in extra time to make it 4: 3. From 2006 he was active for Fortuna Düsseldorf , with whom he first rose to the 3rd division and a year later to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2009/10 season Palikuća was increasingly used in the second team in the Regionalliga West. From summer 2010, Palikuća and his former team-mate Axel Lawarée played in Meerbusch for TuS Bösinghoven. There he suffered an injury to his knee in September 2010, which is why he was out until spring 2011. In Bösinghoven he was only rarely used in defense, but mainly in the storm. With the club, he rose as a national league champion in 2011 in the Lower Rhine League . In 2014 he became the new trainer of TuS Bösinghoven. He resigned in December 2016.
Career as a functionary
After Palikuća had ended his career as a professional footballer in February 2010 , he switched to the marketing department at Fortuna Düsseldorf, most recently as manager of the licensing team in the scouting & squad planning department .
On April 15, 2019, Palikuća became the sports director of the relegation-threatened Bundesliga club 1. FC Nürnberg . After relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga could not be prevented in the 2018/19 season, Palikuća replaced the interim coach Boris Schommers with Damir Canadi for the 2019/20 season . After a false start, the club parted ways with Canadi after 12 match days in 11th place. Palikuća then signed Jens Keller as the new head coach. Under basement, the FCN completed the season on the relegation place. For the relegation matches against FC Ingolstadt 04 Palikuća put the NLZ -directors Michael Wiesinger one as head coach. After the club had prevented relegation to the 3rd division after a 2-0 win and a 1-3 defeat in stoppage time due to the away goals rule , the supervisory board announced the separation from Palikuća on July 31, 2020. A few days before the end of the month, he was replaced by Dieter Hecking .
