Roland Fischnaller (born September 19, 1980 in Brixen , South Tyrol ) is an Italian snowboarder and five-time Olympian (2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018). He lives and lives in St. Peter in Villnöß .

Life

Fischnaller grew up in Villnöß and made his first attempts at snowboarding at the Fillerlift in Villnößtal when he was 10 years old . The trained carpenter is now a member of the Italian Army Sports Group and in his spare time is an enthusiastic mountaineer and member of the Villnöß mountain rescue service.

Athletic career

Fischnaller made his debut in the World Cup in 1997 . Fischnaller has been part of Sigi Grabner's SG Pro Team since 2007 . His greatest World Cup successes to date were the first places in the parallel slalom in Limone Piemonte (Italy) in December 2010 and in Moscow in March 2011, as well as four second places in the parallel slalom and three further second places in the parallel giant slalom.

So far he has participated in three Olympic Games ( Salt Lake City 2002 , Turin 2006 and Vancouver 2010 ) and is now multiple Italian champion in various snowboard disciplines. He has been taking part in world championships since 2001.

In the parallel giant slalom he won the silver medal and bronze in the parallel slalom at the 2013 Snowboard World Championships in Stoneham (Canada) .

In 2015 he became FIS world champion in parallel slalom in Kreischberg.

At the 2017 Snowboard World Championships , he finished ninth in the parallel slalom.

In 2018 he competed for the fifth time at the Winter Olympics and on February 24th in Pyeongchang he finished seventh in the parallel giant slalom.
