The 43rd edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo took place in 1993 on four evenings between 23 and 27 February at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo and was moderated by Pippo Baudo and Lorella Cuccarini .
procedure
After the success of the previous year, the Rai 1993 left everything as it was: 24 participants in the main category, 18 in the newcomers, three eliminations each on the first three evenings. Pippo Baudo was the moderator again , this time together with the Mediaset celebrity Lorella Cuccarini . Baudo's role in the festival grew bigger and bigger, while the executive companies OAI (with Adriano Aragozzini ) and Publispei (with Carlo Bixio and Marco Ravera ) had little more to say this year (also because of ongoing legal proceedings against Aragozzini). Alba Parietti , co- host of the previous year, presented the talk show Dopofestival . As an exception, the festival started on Tuesday, but suspended an evening on Wednesday.
Among the participants were three former winners: Enrico Ruggeri , Matia Bazar and Peppino di Capri . In addition, many other former participants returned, such as Renato Zero , Amedeo Minghi , Francesca Alotta , Mietta , Paola Turci and Biagio Antonacci . Several former participants went this time together in the race, so Grazia Di Michele and Rossana Casale , the sisters Loredana Bertè and Mia Martini , Tony Esposito and Ladri di Biciclette and the Beat - Supergroup from Maurizio Vandelli ( team 84 ), Dik Dik and I Camaleonti . Roberto Murolo , star of Neapolitan folk music, made his debut at the festival . Rod Stewart and Diana Ross also appeared as international guests .
In the newcomer category, the song In te von Nek caused controversy for its anti-abortion theme; it ended up in third place, behind Ma non ho più la mia città by Gerardina Trovato and La solitudine by Laura Pausini . In the main category, the favorite Enrico Ruggeri won with Mistero . As in 1991, the audience in the hall loudly expressed its preference for Renato Zero, who however only ended up in fifth place. Cristiano De André came in second and was also awarded the Critics' Prize for Dietro la porta . In the newcomer category, this went to A piedi nudi from Angela Baraldi , who missed the final.
