Saskia Bartusiak (born September 9, 1982 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German soccer player . With the German national team and 1. FFC Frankfurt , she won all noteworthy international and national titles in women's football.

Life

After graduating from the drawing school in 2002 , Bartusiak began studying sports science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, which she completed in 2011.

Athletic career

Club soccer

Bartusiak began her football career at FV 09 Eschersheim . In 1996 she left her home club and joined FSV Frankfurt , in whose jersey she also made her Bundesliga debut. In 2005 she moved to 1. FFC Frankfurt . In March 2017, Bartusiak announced the end of her career as a professional footballer at the end of the season.

Bartusiak was used both in defense and in midfield .

National team

Bartusiak played once for the German U18 national team and eleven times for the Under-21 side of the DFB .

On April 12, 2007, she came in the game against the Netherlands for the first time in the German national team. With the national team, she won the World Cup in China in 2007. For the 2011 World Cup in Germany, she was part of the team and played in central defense.

On February 15, 2012 she led the national team as captain for the first time in her 50th international match in a 5-0 victory in the European Championship qualifier against Turkey for the injured regular captain Nadine Angerer . In the 4th minute of stoppage time she was sent off with the second warning ( yellow-red card ) and was therefore suspended for the next game against Spain.

At the 2013 European Championships in Sweden, she won the eighth title with the team. Germany received only one goal in the entire tournament. For her achievements in defense, she was elected to the EM All-Star Team on June 30, 2013.

On November 27, 2013 she scored her first international goal in the World Cup qualifier against Croatia with the 8-0 goal in her 79th international match.

On May 24, 2015 she was appointed to the final squad for the 2015 World Cup in Canada by national coach Silvia Neid . In September 2015 she took over the captain's armband from the resigned Nadine Angerer in the national team.

In 2016, Bartusiak was inducted into the national team for the women's Olympic football tournament in Brazil. As team captain, she played all six games of the tournament over the full season. In the group game against Australia, she scored the goal to equalize 2-2 shortly before the end of the game. In the semifinals against Canada, she made her 100th international match . By beating Sweden 2-1 in the final , she won the gold medal. She resigned from the national team three days after winning the Olympic Games.
