The Sickendorf Castle is a castle in Sickendorf ( Hofstraße 14 ), a district of Lauterbach in the Vogelsbergkreis in Hesse .

history

Already in the 15th century there was a fiefdom of the Riedesel family in Sickendorf . In its place, a new building was built for Baron Albrecht Georg Karl Woldemar Riedesel , which burned down in 1882. The new castle was built in 1884–87 according to plans by the architect Albert Petersen from Altona .

Building description

The rectangular, two-storey palace building has a sloped hipped roof and shows gabled risalits , a polygonal corner bay window with a domed roof and, in some cases, more recent extensions and porches. A round tower with a conical roof can be found on the north side and a winter garden from 1905 on the east side. In the south-east corner facing the park there is a keep - like four-sided tower with a slated roof and four control houses .

The originally clinkered house, with corner blocks , window and door frames and richly designed cornices made of sandstone in neo-renaissance shapes , was plastered in 1911. The house with its splendid historicist interior features colored glazed windows, especially in the stairwell.

South of the Hofgut, at the same time as the palace was built by the Siesmayer company from Frankfurt am Main, a 115,000 square meter palace park was laid out in English style . A monument of tuff - ashlar with ?? iron cross the pond, donated by hospital inmates end of the First World War is their hosts Gertrud and Albrechtsried donkey dedicated.

Todays use

After the Sickendorfer line of von Riedesel died out, the castle was sold several times. The castle has been privately owned by the current owner since 2008 and is gradually being renovated. The castle and the associated park are cultural monuments for historical and artistic reasons.
