Geographical location

Sinntal is located on the northern edge of the Spessart and on the western foothills of the Rhön . The Fulda regional center is about 30 km north of Sinntal. The community takes its name from the river Sinn , which flows through the southern districts.

Neighboring communities

Sinntal borders in the north on the municipality of Kalbach ( district of Fulda ), in the east on the municipality of Motten , the community-free area Mottener Forst-Süd and the city of Bad Brückenau , the Zeitlofs market and the community-free area Roßbacher Forst (all district of Bad Kissingen ), im To the south to the Obersinn market ( Main-Spessart district ) and to the west to the unincorporated area Gutsgebiet Spessart and the town of Schlüchtern .

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality of Sinntal was formed on July 1, 1972 through the voluntary merger of the previously independent municipalities of Mottgers, Schwarzenfels and Weichersbach. On July 1, 1974, Altengronau (with the town of Neuengronau incorporated on December 1, 1969), Jossa, Oberzell and Sterbfritz (with the towns of Breunings, Sannerz and Weiperz, which was incorporated on December 1, 1969) were added. On January 1, 1977, Züntersbach was finally incorporated. Local districts with local advisory councils and local councilors were formed for all districts .

The municipal area of ​​Sinntal is still characterized by numerous so-called dwarf schools. In many of them several years are taught in one class, in two of them (Sannerz and Züntersbach) even all four. The plan of the Hessian Ministry of Culture to close many of these schools due to insufficient student numbers is causing considerable displeasure in the community.
