Skeletons from the Closet: The Best of Grateful Dead is the first greatest hits - compilation of the band Grateful Dead .
history
The LP was first distributed in 1974 by Warner Bros. Records . In 2004 there was a re-release under the label Rhino Records .
After the last albums Workingman's Dead and American Beauty sold well, Warner Bros. Records wanted to take advantage of the band's popularity.
In addition, Warner Bros. Records tried to keep recording costs as low as possible. Three songs are not dead studio songs. Turn On Your Lovelight was first released on the sampler The Big Ball (1970), which was just a decoy offer . This version was also heard in full on the live album Live / Dead . The song One More Saturday Night was used from the album Europe '72 . Mexicali Blues by Bob Weir actually descended from his album Ace (1972), which was also released by Warner Bros. Records.
Warner Bros. Records released the album two more times. In 1988 it was released on CD and cassette, and again as LP in 1990 . As part of a greatest hits series by various artists, Rhino Records released the album again on May 24, 2004. In contrast to the other Grateful Dead albums, this album was not provided with bonus material.
successes
The album reached number 75 on the Billboard charts .
On March 14, 1980, the album reached the gold status , on 15 December 1986, went platinum , on 24 June 1994 to double platinum status and on 31 January 1995 triple platinum status in the United States , making it the best-selling.
