Susanne Schaefer-Wiery (born August 12, 1960 in Weyer , Upper Austria) is an Austrian art and literary scholar, adult educator, politician (SPÖ) and since 2013 district head of the 5th Viennese district Margareten .

Life

Susanne Wiery grew up in Freistadt , Upper Austria . After graduating from the Matura in 1978, she went to study German and art history at the University of Vienna , completing a Magistra in Philosophy.

In 1984 she began her professional career as a lecturer and later as chair of the specialist group for literature at the Vienna Adult Education Centers . Together with Norbert Siegl, she founded the Institute for Graffiti Research Vienna (ifg) in 1996. In her publications on graffiti , she examined its social functions from ancient times to today. From 1998 to 2000 she was the director of the adult education center in Hernals , from 2001 to 2002 she was in charge of the renovation of the Vienna Urania as deputy director. From 2002 to 2009 she was the director of the adult education center polycollege . Parallel to her work in the Viennese public education, she took over the management of the Filmcasino & polyfilm Betriebs GmbH in Vienna-Margareten from 2002 to 2013 . In 2009, Schaefer-Wiery became a board member of Sozial Global AG and held this position until 2013. From 2011 to 2013 she was managing director of SozialGmbH, a subsidiary of Sozial Global AG in Vienna.

politics

Schaefer-Wiery's political commitment began as a member of the cinema section of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and later also of the WKO , as well as the chair of the Margareten trade association. In 2010 she became district councilor for the SPÖ, deputy club chairwoman and chairwoman of the district culture commission. In 2013 Schaefer-Wiery took over the office of district head of Margareten.

One of the focal points of her political work as district head is the implementation and promotion of participatory elements and structures within the district political decision-making processes.

In addition to the implementation of larger and smaller public participation projects such as the redesign of Reinprechtsdorfer Straße, Siebenbrunnenplatz or Einsiedlerpark, the participatory budget was introduced in Margareten in 2017 .

In February 2020, she left the SPÖ.
